Correspondence, 1838-1903.

This collection includes 20 letters, mounted and bound by the dealer, 5 of which were written by William Makepeace Thackeray himself. The remaining 15 letters were written by members of Thackeray's family and by friends and are concerned with the W. M. Thackeray's life, his family, and his works. The 15 letters were written by Charles H. E. Brookfield (1857-1913), Shirley Brooks (1815-1874), John Brown (1784-1858), L. B. Gibbs, E. H. Elton, R. M. Coulion, Jane Thackeray Pryme, Anne Thackeray Ritchie (1837-1919), Hester Thackeray Ritchie, Richmond Ritchie, W. G. B. Ritchie, Albert Smith (1816-1860), Sir Leslie Stephen (1832-1904), Isabella Shaw Thackeray, and Martin Thackeray. There are also 28 pictures of William Makepeace Thackery and one of the Thackery house. These pictures are pasted on the pages of the book and were probably taken from magazines. They are not originals.
